5 Trade Show Booth Design Ideas For Luring In Attendees

Show attendees have a lot of options. After all, they're being courted by both you and your competition. Worse, many of your competitors will have head-turning, eye-catching exhibits that appeal to attendees and lure them away from your booth.

The good news is that there's an effective way to fight fire with fire. You just need to come up with creative trade show booth design ideas that will attract attention.

There's immense value in appealing to the right attendees. You don't want to attract tire-kickers and freebie-seekers. To that end, your ideas must communicate your marketing message to your intended audience while still managing to reinforce your brand story.

That's a tall task. Fortunately, we're here to help. Here are 5 suggestions that will get you started in the right direction.

#1 – Don't Assume Bigger Is Better

Large exhibits look impressive. But that doesn't mean they're meeting the exhibitors' show goals. Your booth should be as big as you need it to be in order to achieve your objectives.

For example, are you trying to generate leads? You don't need a two-story, show-stealing mega-exhibit to do so. On the other hand, if you're trying to deliver a big brand experience, a small portable display won't suffice. You need something larger to make a memorable splash.

Bottom line: size should be dictated by your goals.

#2 – Make Attendees Comfortable

Put yourself in the shoes of an attendee. What are the most immediate challenges you face? If it's the afternoon, your phone probably needs to be recharged. And assuming you've been on your feet for most of the day, you're likely tired.

As an exhibitor, how can you accommodate those needs? One idea is to offer a phone charging station. They're inexpensive and take up little space. Another idea is to put comfortable chairs in your booth.

If you make attendees comfortable, they'll be more receptive to your overtures.

#3 – Use High Quality Images On Your Graphics

Image quality on your banners, backwalls and displays will influence attendees' perception of your brand. Fortunately, it's easy to ensure your graphics look first-rate. Just be sure to use vector images, which can be resized without negatively affecting resolution.

For the best results, work with an experienced trade show graphics designer who knows how to properly communicate a strong brand identity.

#4 – Add Visual Appeal With Smart Lighting

A little light in the right places can breathe new life into your graphics and other creatives. It doesn't have to be expensive. With a little creativity, you can set up cost-effective lighting that brings attention to your brand.

For example, use LED backlights to highlight the rich hues in your backwalls and displays. Set up monopoint lights to showcase your products, signage and other marketing collateral from above. Place picture lights directly above your pop-up displays or place floor-sitting spotlights directly below them. Both can make your graphics appear more attractive and will give your brand a boost in visibility.

#5 – Think Like A Minimalist

One of the most common traits you'll see at big shows is clutter. Walk the floor and take a look at other exhibitors' booths. Banners and displays will have too many colors and too much text. The areas where visitors engage with booth staff will have too much marketing collateral and not enough elbowroom. Even the graphics will seem overwhelming.

Again, put yourself in the shoes of an attendee. You're bombarded with visual stimuli from the moment you step into the venue until you moment you leave.

As an exhibitor, be a contrarian and think like a minimalist...
  • Stick to using 2 or 3 colors on displays
  • Trim the text on your banners and make liberal use of white space
  • Store items you don't need inside of your booth
  • Free up space wherever possible to make your exhibit feel less cramped
  • Design simple graphics that boldly promote your brand

In an ocean of loud colors and busy creatives, many attendees will need, and indeed seek, a respite from the visual noise. Offer an island of calm where they can relax.

Use the 5 trade show booth design ideas above to create an exhibit that appeals to your audience. Many of your competitors won't take the time. That's good news, because it gives you an opportunity to stand out from the pack!
