Maximizing Your Company's Benefits From Custom Banner Stands

Custom banner stands are a simple and cost-effective way to draw attention to your brand, products, and message, if you apply some good design practices and get creative with the banners. At trade shows, you can use them to create a backwall for your booth that one person can easily assemble in minutes, or near the aisle to draw traffic into your booth, and they can be strategically placed outside the booth to increase exposure. Put them wherever people congregate, or in most-used hallways, like those that lead to restrooms. When you're back in the office, don't waste storage space with your banner stands; keep a set of banners for in-house use. Put motivational messages for your employees in the break room, or marketing messages in your conference room or lobby.
  • Simplicity - Banner design is all about simplicity and visual imagery. It's a relatively small medium, so you need to think in terms of presenting the viewers with "bite-sized" chunks of information. People tend to react more strongly to photos and graphics than to words, in the context of marketing media, so keeping the text to a minimum is a good practice. Include your visual branding near the top, and a clear, bold high-resolution image. If you have to include text, make sure the color and fonts are in keeping with your branding package, because consistency is the foundation of brand marketing.
  • Spotlight - If you want to use custom banner stands to publicize new products, think of the surface area of the banner like the area on a stage that's lit by a spotlight: a small, focused area that you really only want one star to appear in. If a photo of your product can speak for itself, let it. If you have to include words, consider making a series of banners, each with one or two big, bold words along with a knockout photo that inspires the viewer to think positively about that product.
  • Something To Talk About - Another approach to take with custom banner stands is to encourage viewers to share your product or message on social media by giving them something to talk about. Maybe that something is your product itself, in a setting that sparks their imagination or humor. Maybe the "something to talk about" borrows the "pig in the window" principle from merchandising: What's that pig doing in the window? It may not have anything whatsoever to do with what's being sold inside, but it stops people, and encourages them to think, to make up reasons for it being there, and it creates a memorable impression. In banner design, the pig in the window principle needs a little adaptation, because the "window" you're displaying isn't in a permanent location, so it's imperative that the memorable impression you create includes your name and logo. Be careful to vet your ideas before finalizing them, so you don't accidentally end up with something that backfires on social media. The Internet never forgets. Create a banner image that's humorous, profound, or inspirational and people are likely to photograph and share it on social media. Create something they'll want a photograph of themselves standing with, and they won't be able to resist.
